Indiana Health Exchange

When the Affordable Care Act was announced in 2010, Indiana was one of the first states to receive the Federal Level One Establishment grant of over six million dollars. They were planning to have a state-run health insurance exchange. However, in 2012 when Governor-Elect Mike Pence spoke, he decided to not move forward all despite the work that Governor Mitch Daniels had done when he established and operated the Indiana Insurance Market, Inc. which was a non-profit organization designed to help with the purchase of health insurance in 2011. As a result, the federally-facilitated health exchange will be utilized in 2014.

Over 500,000 residents are uninsured in Indiana. Those below the poverty level are not required to buy insurance. If you are single, it is $11,000 or below. If you are a family of four it’s $23,000 or below. If you are at least four times the poverty level, then you will be entitled to tax subsidies.

Despite what Lucinda Nord said when she stated,The difference on October 1st is hey can begin hitting the submit on their applications,” it appears the state will default to insurance provided through the federal exchange. The federally facilitated exchange will be up and running by January 2014, according to the most recent reports.
