Nebraska Health Exchange

A state-wide health insurance marketplace has taken effect in Nebraska as the result of the Affordable Care Act of 2010. The Nebraska State Health Exchange is run by the federal government. However, Nebraska does oversee the health insurance companies that have been made available to the public through this new health insurance marketplace.

The federal government will be managing a majority of the functions for the Nebraska State Health Exchange. For the overseeing of participating insurance companies, the Nebraska legislature has authorized the Nebraska Exchange Stakeholder Commission. The Commission will be responsible for providing input to both state and federal officials regarding how the health insurance marketplace should operate.

Need a little help?

Residents of Nebraska can contact the Community Action of Nebraska or the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska with questions regarding enrollment, or for assistance participating in the enrollment process. These organizations have both received federal grants to hire navigators who can assist residents with the open enrollment process. These organizations allow individuals to enroll over the phone or via the web. Phone enrollment can be very helpful with recent glitches in the federal government online enrollment system. For those who really need assistance with the process, you can meet with a navigator in person to have your questions answered and your enrollment guided.
