Virginia Health Exchange

With 14 percent of Virginia residents currently uninsured, Virginia will operate a federally-run health exchange marketplace in an effort to insure the uninsured. The Affordable Care Act is making it possible for individuals who previously could not afford health insurance to select a health insurance plan that is affordable and meets their individual needs.

Many Plans to Choose From

Virginia’s health exchange program is going to offer a rather large number of health insurance plans to choose from. Nine health insurance providers will be participating in the Virginia health exchange marketplace. These insurance companies include Optima Health, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Coventry One, CareFirst Blue Choice, Innovation Health Insurance Company, Carefirst Bluecross Blueshield, Kaiser Permanente, Aenta and Anthem Health Plans of Virginia.

These nine insurance companies will provide Virginia residents with a total of 105 different plans to choose from. With high competition amongst these nine different carriers, Virginia residents will receive the added bonus of lower monthly premiums compared to a large portion of individuals participating in the health care exchange in other parts of the country.
